Yacutinga Lodge's ecotourism concept is devoted to produce a wonderful relationship between the visitor and the surrounding Nature.

This means that everyone visiting and living at Yacutinga Lodge takes part in different environmental activities, such as environmental education-based walks, Native trees planting, Wildlife observation and classification, and interpretation of Natural processes to understand and discover this Forest.

Guide
  San Francisco Stream

The aim is to give the most complete information on Misiones Forest, on our traditions and habits. Also, to have the opportunity to communicate how and why we are protecting this Natural Sanctuary, probably one of the last relicts of the richest and most varied Eco-region in Argentina.

Yacutinga Experience - 2 nights
If you are planning to visit us, we recommend staying with us for at least 2 nights.

It is very easy to combine Yacutinga Experience  with the traditional visit to Iguazú Falls.

The result will be an itinerary of high tourism content to enjoy Misiones Forest.

Yacutinga Experience is the basic itinerary offered at Yacutinga Lodge. Guests may stay with us for more days developing other walks and tours.

If the traveler has a specific interest, he/she may choose the following options specially designed for this purpose.

Birds - 4 Nights
The area where Yacutinga Wildlife Private Reserve is located belongs to the Paranaense Forest phytogeographical province.

This is one of the areas richest in biodiversity in Argentina.

The main characteristics that generate this exuberant nature are its warm climate, constant humidity, and lack of dry seasons and of changing climate.

These environmental conditions make the area a sort of giant greenhouse.

This is a completely green, stubborn and many a times, impenetrable forest.

The forest structure becomes apparent in its different plant strata, which provide more than 320 bird species listed in Yacutinga with shelter, food and reproduction sites.

 Butterflies - 4 Nights

An inventory of Rhopaloceros (diurnal butterflies) has been conducted at Yacutinga since September 2002; we have already identified more than 520 species.

The great number of butterfly species and individuals observed throughout the year is unbelievable. We can say that there is no place or spot where the presence of these insects is not evidenced, although they are more abundant in sunny places with wet soil, as well as on flowers and all sites with presence of mineral salts and high humidity.

Butterflies usually alight on visitors' clothes, bags and other belongings.

Few groups like butterflies offer their beauty, elegance and grace to this forest, which surprises us each day providing us with the possibility to observe rare, striking species. Caterpillars and chrysalises are also plentiful; they are found attached to their nutrient plants.

  :: Activities

A guest at Yacutinga Lodge does not need to be an expert bird watcher or a Naturalist, not even a Rambo-like adventurer to enjoy our place.

The guest only needs to be someone wishing to open up his/her senses and spirit to get and understand the secrets and knowledge underlying in the Natural balance of Misiones Forest.

Basically, during our tours, we put an emphasis on the forest dynamics, its ecology and importance to man.

We share the concept that Nature around us is a living entity functioning as a whole.

Each plant or animal species has a specific role in this environmental balance.

Yacutinga Lodge simply helps the visitor to discover this complex and striking relationship.

 Interpretative Walks

Our expert guides will lead you along the different environmental interpretation trails of Yacutinga Natural Reserve.

This is an environment highly rich in biodiversity, old-growth trees, medicinal  plants, orchids, bromeliads, butterflies, beetles, birds and mammals that combine to provide the key to interpretation and astonish us with a very intense natural contact inside Misiones Forest.

Why do lianas spiral out as they grow?

This is one of our guests' the typical questions. They are Nature lovers who wish to know its secrets and mysteries.

 The Forest at Night

We wait for the night to come. The sounds of Nature produce a very complex symphony.
We silently take part of this scene.
The owls start their activities. Above us, the Milky Way becomes our ceiling.
This might be a suitable description of this walk organized by Yacutinga Lodge' s environmental Guides. The aim is to sharpen our senses.

 Padling along the Iguazú River

The Forest water streams are highly important for the Ecosystem: they are true life corridors. Navigaing (seat-on-Top Kayaks) this waters is extremely relaxing and gives us the opportunity to move along the Gallery forests in silence. In this environment, seed dispersal occurs differently. Root systems have adapted to flood soils.
Salt patches are very common on the shores of these streams, and wild animals often seek these places, therefore it is common to find animal footprints and traces in the muddy shores.
Isn't it interesting to learn to interpret these traces with the expert Guide and understand what has happened only a few hours before on the River shore?

 Observation Towers

We designed some constructions at Yacutinga offering you the opportunity to be alone and in close contact with Nature.
These refuges are distributed in different areas of the Reserve.
Have you ever seen a flock of parrots flying only 5 meters above you? It is not only impressive to see these birds but also to hear their wings bat.

The possibilities to observe wild fauna at Yacutinga Reserve depend on various conditions since animals are free and not managed.

Weather has a strong influence in animal behaviour and is perhaps the most important issue while hiking in our interpretatives trails.

Silence , patience, reduced use of insect repellent and the way we walk must be considered as in order to guarantee a succesful observation.
